This Project
The Department of Theatre & Dance at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa is committed to moving forward while simultaneously sharing the past. These unprecedented times pose a creative challenge to theatre-makers and have pushed us to create new content for the modern world. Inspired by the rich performance tradition of the Japanese performing arts, we have devised performances that draw from the language, style, movements, and stories of kyōgen, and re-imagined them for a virtual platform in order to share this comic tradition, and the creative works it continues to inspire, with you today. We hope you will enjoy the opportunity to experience something “remotely kyōgen.”
